Robert Kent Bingham

Calhoun City – Robert Kent Bingham, 91, went home to sing in heaven’s choir on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2020.
Born June 25, 1928, in Calhoun County, he was the son of the late Guy Victor Bingham and the late Greta Mitchell Bingham. He attended Spring Hill School in Webster County and was a very active member at Bradford Chapel Baptist Church where he was a proud member of the choir. Mr. Kent had a passion for singing and led many singings at various nursing homes and churches.
He married the love of his life Loretta Ferguson Bingham on Nov. 23, 1948, and they spent 68 wonderful years together until her passing in 2017. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II, stationed in Okinawa, Japan. Over the years, he was self-employed as a farmer and cattleman, and also enjoyed beekeeping. Mr. Kent was an avid outdoorsman. He loved being outdoors either hunting or fishing. Known for his contagious smile, there was never a time you met him he wasn’t smiling. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but he is now rejoicing in his Heavenly Home.
A “Celebration of Life Singing” was held Saturday, Jan. 25, from 1 to  2 p.m. at Bradford Chapel Baptist Church, followed by the funeral service at the church.  Bro. Owen Hitchcock and Bro. Jon Haimes officiated. Interment was at Bradford Chapel Cemetery.
His nephews served as pallbearers.
He leaves behind his daughters, Freda Bryant and husband Donald of Gore Springs; Vickie Menzie of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; Bobbie Russell and husband Toxie of Bentley, and Emmie Davis and husband Seth of Calhoun City; son George Kent Bingham and wife Julia of Slate Springs; brother Jimmie Bingham and wife Mattie of Vicksburg; grandchildren, Timothy Bryant, David Bryant, Joel (Carli) Bryant, Jacob (Kayla) Bingham, John Bingham, Nathaniel (Charlsie) Lucius, Caleb Lucius, Jerry Russell, Matthew Hood,  Andrew Hood and Emilee Davis; and 10 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any of the following: Bradford Chapel Baptist Church, Sabougla Fire Department, Baptist Children’s Village or The Gideon’s.

Mary Louise Prince

Funeral services for Mary Louise Prince of Grenada are Saturday at 1 p.m. at Greater Pine Hill M. B. Church with burial in Haven Rest Cemetery.
Mrs. Prince, 79, died of natural causes at Grenada Living Center on Jan. 24, 2020. She was born on March 5, 1941.  Mrs. Prince was a retired lab technician for Grenada Hospital.
Mrs. Prince is survived by three sons, Anthony Avery, Michael Maggitt and Rodrick Maggitt, all of Grenada; one sister Iona Savage of Fort Worth, Texas;  and one brother George Avery of Grenada.

Bessie Clark Mack

Funeral services for Bessie “Big Mama” Clark Mack of Grenada are Saturday at 1 p.m. at Greater Powell Chapel AME Church with burial in Haven Rest Cemetery.
Mrs. Mack, 74, died of heart failure at UMMC-Grenada on Jan. 25, 2020. She was born on Sept. 15, 1945.  Mrs. Mack was a retiree of Pennaco Hosiery. She enjoyed sewing and cooking.
Mrs. Mack is survived by two daughters, Dana Mack and Sylvia Mack, both of Lumberton, N.C.;  three sons, Cedric Clark of Nashville, Frederick Mack of Memphis and Myron Mack of Albany, Ga.;  one sister Gertrude Marie Clark-Parker of Dallas, Texas;  and one brother James Cornell Clark.

Billy England Simmons

Mr. Billy England Simmons, 84, of Grenada, passed away Sunday, Jan. 26, 2020, at St. Dominic-Jackson Memorial Hospital in Jackson.
He was born April 20, 1935, in Calhoun County. Billy worked most of his life in the maintenance department at Randall Textron in Grenada. He was a U.S. Army veteran and an avid hunter and fisherman.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Jan. 29, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service. Interment was in the Oddfellows Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years Patsy Carter Simmons; four daughters, Billie Lynn Jones of Grenada; Kathy Cleveland (Butch) of Baskin, La.; Linda Brunson of Grenada and Paula Simmons of Grenada; one sister Frankie Applewhite of McCall Creek; seven grandchildren, B.J. Jones, John Jones, Curtis Rose, Richard Cleveland, Lauren Rogers, Brittany Brunson and Carter Aven; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lucille and Stanley Howell; daughter Patricia Aven; sister Kathryn Magee and brother Jerry Howell.
Pallbearers were Carter Aven, Donnie Carter, Richard Cleveland, Jimmy Coughran, B.J. Jones, John Jones, David Magee and Curtis Rose. Honorary pallbearers were Billy Van Aven, Butch Cleveland, Aaron Foster, Willard Earl Smith and Harvey Taylor.
