As of Wednesday morning, city election commissioners were still awaiting the proof of residency for two potential candidates before finalizing who will appear on the 2020 municipal elections.
Election Commissioner Bettye Chamberlain said that after confirming with the secretary of state’s office, the commissioners have until Thursday to approve the proof of residency for Col. Tim Freelon and Stephan Whaley, who both submitted paperwork to run for Ward Two City Council.
“We checked with Jackson, and we have until Thursday to approve the proof of residency for those two candidates,” Chamberlain said.
Floyd Miller, who submitted paperwork to run for Ward Seven City Councilman, was disqualified Tuesday after issues with required signatures.
