One disqualified from city election

Staff Report

One potential candidate has been disqualified from the upcoming city election, officials said Tuesday morning.

Floyd Miller, who filed papers for the Ward 7 alderman’s position, was disqualified because he did not have the required 50 signatures from ward residents, according the Election Commissioner Bettye Chamberlian.

Ward Seven will have four candidates: Incumbent Ronnie Merriman, Joe Ward, Fredrick Tidwell and Robert Shuffield.

Commissioners Maurice Stinson, Edner Baker and Chamberlain are still working on the forms turned in by Ward 2  hopefuls, Incumbent Fredreick “Pete” Wilson, Ret. Col. Tim Freelon and Stephan Whaley. An update will be posted here when available.

The city election is set for May 4.
