City Manager Fired

Developing Story with Updated Information

Grenada City Manager Lakeylah White was fired Monday night in an executive session of a special called meeting of the city council, Mayor Billy Collins said.

City Human Resource Director Trina George was named interim city manager, Collins said.

Mayor Collins told the GrenadaStar that he could not remember the exact vote, but he said it was a majority. Two city hall sources say the vote to replace White was 5-1-1 with Ward 3 Council Lewis Johnson voting against, Ward 5 Councilman Eric Harris abstaining, and Warren Cox, ward one; Ernest Hargrove, ward four; Larry Vance, ward six; and Ronald Merrmian of ward seven,  voting in favor of replacing White.

Several city hall sources indicate the executive session was contentious.

White was hired as city manager in August after Trey Baker resigned to take a job with the Joe Biden presidential campaign.

GrenadaStar will publish additional details Tuesday as they become available.
