An overnight house fire claimed the life of a Grenada man.
The victim was identified as Ricky Stoker, who, according to Fire Chief Ronnie Willis, occupied the family home.
The Grenada Fire Department responded to the fire in the 700 block of Choctaw Street this morning at 3:49, according to Willis.
When crews arrived at the scene, the body of a man was discovered in one of the rooms.
All four fire stations, including two shifts, responded to the two-story house, which Willis said was a total loss.
“The state crime lab is performing an autopsy, and we are expecting the state fire marshal in town tomorrow as the investigation continues,” Willis said.
Crews are currently on the scene, according to Willis, as they continue salvage and overhaul of the property.
For many years, Stoker’s family owned and operated Stoker Jewelry in downtown Grenada.
