The field of candidates in the special election for the Ward Five City Councilman seat has started at two.
This week, Eric Harris and Col. Tim Freelon submitted their qualifying papers to City Clerk Lois Freelon to kick off the official race leading to the Oct. 7 election.
Both Harris and Freelon have placed political signs throughout the ward that stretches through parts of Downtown Grenada, Eastern Heights, Futheyville and the city’s eastside which includes areas like Jasper Neely Drive, East Govan Street, Spain Drive and the Brickyard community.
Harris is a funeral home director with Clark-Williams Funeral Home, and Freelon is a retired Army colonel who moved back to Grenada after years in the service.
City Election Commissioners Maurice Stinson, Betty Chamberlain and Edner Baker returned this week and continued to look through voting records, and signatures submitted by each candidate.
