Aubrey Carter

Mr. Aubrey Carter, 88, of Grenada, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2019, at his residence.

He was born Jan. 13, 1931, in Lawton, Okla., to John Aubrey and Alma Overton Carter. Mr. Carter retired as manager of Otasco in Grenada and was a devoted and faithful member of the Southside Church of Christ.  He was a lifetime member of the Grenada Area Chamber of Commerce and had previously been a member of the Grenada Jaycees.

Mr. Carter devoted much of his time to the Grenada Exchange Club and was the recipient of the “Book of Golden Deeds,” the club’s highest honor.  An accomplished athlete, Mr. Carter was on the 1949 Chickasha High School football team, the only team in the school’s history to have an undefeated year. Mr. Carter’s devotion to the youth of the community was unwavering by his service to the Grenada Youth League.  GYL honored him in recent years by naming the street that runs through the park “Aubrey Carter Drive.” He was also recognized in previous years as an honorary high school baseball coach at Grenada High School.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 30, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service. Malcom Grant and Bro. Joey Gafford will officiate, and eulogies will be offered by Hayes Carter, Bruce Carter, Jan Carter Smith and Anita Carter Turner.  Interment will follow in the Woodlawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time Friday at McKibben and Guinn.

Survivors include his wife of 70 years Ruth Mathews Carter; two daughters, Jan Carter Smith (Mike) and Anita Carter Turner ( Kenny) both of Grenada; one son, Bruce Carter (Mary Gay) of Ruston, La.; seven grandchildren, Tracy Mitchell (Rob), Bruce Dale Carter Jr., Hayes Carter (Paige), Tim Turner (Lori), Ken Turner (Memrie), Sean Turner (Taylor) and Mathew Carter; and eight great-grandchildren, Reynolds Carter, Abby Jo Carter, Joey Ruth Turner, Jaxon Turner, Aubrey Turner, Cassidy Turner, Landon Turner and Aiden Turner.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son Joe Carter; one sister Ruby Zuelzer; and two brothers, Ed and Arnold Carter.

Pallbearers will be Bruce Carter Jr., Hayes Carter, Mathew Carter, Reynolds Carter, Aiden Turner, Jaxon Turner, Ken Turner, Landon Turner, Sean Turner and Tim Turner.

Nicholas Deshaun Everett

Funeral services for Nicholas Deshaun “Nick” Everett, of Duck Hill, formerly of Jackson, are Saturday at 11 a.m. at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.

Mr. Everett, 39, died of heart failure on Aug. 25, 2019, at Baptist Hospital in Jackson. He was born on July 9, 1980. Mr. Everett was a shipping clerk and enjoyed playing basketball.

Mr. Everett is survived by his parents, M.C. and Patsy Everett of Duck Hill;  his wife Stephanie Byrd-Everett of Jackson;  two daughters, Jakaris Byrd and Taylor Byrd, both of Jackson;  son, William Deshaun Everett of Jackson;  sister Rashida Everett of Lawrenceville, Ga.;  and two brothers, Frederick McKinney of Duck Hill and Commodore Black of Tacoma, Wash.

Mildred Marie Hubbard

Funeral services for Mildred Marie Hubbard of Philipp, a native of Magee, are Saturday at 1 p.m. at West Tallahatchie High School Auditorium with burial in Westlawn Memorial Garden in Cleveland.

Mrs. Hubbard, 85, died Aug. 20, 2019. She was born on Oct. 2, 1933. Mrs Hubbard received her Master’s Degree in Elementary Education  was a retired educator. She enjoyed running in the Senior Citizen Olympics.

Mrs. Hubbard is survived by her daughter Marundo Hubbard of Philipp;  son DeAudre Hubbard of Atlanta;  and two sisters, Doris Hollins of Memphis and Earlene Mays of Tylertown.

Lucy Christine Morman

Lucy Christine Morman, 87, of Columbus, formerly of Grenada, died Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2019. at the Vineyard Court Nursing Home in Columbus.

She was born July 28, 1932, in Grenada County to Wheeler Sturdivant and Katy Christine Carlton Ezell.

A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, at Red Hill Cemetery near Duck Hill.

Survivors include three daughters, Nancy Wolf of Florida, Linda Collins of Starkville and Susan Pollard of Robertsville, Ala.; two sons, Phillip Collins of Starkville and Bobby Parker of New York; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Thomas E. Morman.

Julius Murray

Julius “Murt” Murray died Sunday, Aug. 25, 2019 at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson.  He was 89.

A native of and raised in Grenada, he born Aug. 11, 1930, and was the son of the late John H. and Laura Greenhaw Murray. Mr. Murray was a Staff Sgt. in the United States Air Force, a 1959 graduate of The University of Mississippi; and he retired after 35 years with Ashland Oil Inc.

Mr. Murray is survived by is wife of 67 years Barbara “Bobby” Murray; daughters, Lee Anne Muncie Omega “Meg” Bickham; twin sister Julia Ann Martin and one grandchild.

Services are at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31,  at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 5301 Old Canton Road in Jackson.  Visitation is one hour prior to the service.

No flowers, please.  Memorials may be made to Trinity Presbyterian Church, Sons of the King Missions, or to French Camp Academy.
