Three local races in Tuesday runoff

Tuesday’s runoff election is not expected to be like any other runoffs in the past — it’s likely to be larger.
At the circuit clerk’s office, close to 600 absentee votes have been cast with both local and statewide races showing growing interest.
“This one is different for me,” said Harold Turner of Grenada.  “The sheriff’s race, someone new is going in as constable for the first time since the 80s, and who knows what’ll happen in the governor’s race. One guy is talking about being conservative and the other wants to rebuild the roads. It’s hot this summer.”
So far 525 absentee ballots have been cast with 484 of those being Democrat. Only 41 Republican absentees have been casts, with that interest likely going toward the governor’s race.
