No fatalities in shooting; investigation continues

Four people remain hospitalized this afternoon, and the Grenada County Sheriff’s Department in currently trying to get to the bottom of the Saturday night shootings that injured them.

Grenada County Sheriff Alton Strider has not released the names of the victims, saying that “it’s early in the investigation and no one has been charged.”

“We don’t want to release the names of the victims just yet,” Strider said. “We have our investigators questioning them right now.”

The shooting happened shortly before 11 p.m. in the 1500 block of Halls Road, at a residence where the county meets the city limits.

The sheriff’s department, along with the Grenada Police Department, responded to a call of multiple shots fired near the home.

According to sources, when deputies and officers arrived at the scene, they found three people shot and wounded. Another had been shot and transported to the local hospital by a private vehicle.

Strider said two of the victims were airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center-Jackson, another  was airlifted to a Memphis hospital, and the other person  was taken to UMMC – Grenada.

“It’s still too early in the investigation to really know what happened,” Strider said. “We’re looking at this as some type of retaliation, but even that is speculation at this point.”
