Special Training at Camp McCain

Imagine if a 7.7 magnitude earthquake hit in the area, well this week hundreds of Mississippi National Guardsmen have been preparing for such a disaster right here in Grenada County.
The simulation is called Ardent Sentry, an unclassified exercise model that focuses on a complex catastrophic earthquake along the New Madrid Seismic Zone as part of Defense Support Civil Authorities.
The exercise scenario is based on a  7.7 magnitude earthquake  in the area of Memphis.  In the exercise over a dozen North Mississippi counties are affected including Grenada and surrounding northern counties.
A total of eight states, 140 counties and four FEMA regions would be affected.
Friday at Camp McCain, National Guardsmen worked at centers  surrounded by live data updating one another on the situation in determined and real-life simulation.
