Robert Earl Clanton
CALHOUN CITY – Robert Earl Clanton, 79, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2019, at his home in Oxford after a brief illness.
He was born on Nov. 1, 1939, in Webster County to the late Herman and Winnie Woods Clanton. He was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church in Webster County and attended Springhill High School. After graduating high school, Robert attended Holmes Junior College where he played football. Following college, he was employed with Soil Conservation in Meridian and Tupelo. He later moved to Calhoun County where he had farming interests. Mr. Clanton was a former member and past president of the Lion’s Club in Calhoun City and was elected to serve as Supervisor of District 4 in Calhoun County. During his tenure on the board, he served as President of the Calhoun County Board of Supervisors and also served a term as State President of the Mississippi Association of Supervisors.
In later years, he worked with S&N Airoflo. He and his wife, Betty, enjoyed spending their retirement years at her home in Oxford and on the farm in Calhoun County.
Robert Earl was an avid conversationalist who immensely enjoyed his friends, the outdoors, and the time he spent with his grand and great-grandchildren. They especially enjoyed hunting and fishing with Granddaddy.
He is survived by his wife Betty M. Bennett Clanton of Oxford; his two sons, Rob Clanton and wife JoJo of Bruce and Russ Clanton and wife Megan of Alexandria, Va.; his step-daughter, Tracy B. (Chad) Coleman of Oxford; his mother-in-law Hazel B. McNeely of Oxford; four grandchildren, Jay (Kayla), Tanner, Elizabeth and Reagan Clanton; three step-grandchildren, Laken Shankle, Hunter and Tyler Coleman; and two great-grandchildren, Bennett and Jase Clanton.
In addition, he is survived by two sisters, Myra Ann Summerford and Linda Harrelson (Lee) of Calhoun City; a niece Lisa Lansdell, a nephew Ben Harrelson and two step-nieces, Lisa Buse and Julie Summerford.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law Lionel Summerford.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at Pryor Funeral Home in Calhoun City on Tuesday, May 21, from 5 until 8 p.m. A private service for the family is planned at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to St. Jude and LeBonheur Hospitals.
Randy Allen Cox
Randy Allen Cox, 57, a certified welder, died at his home in Holcomb on Saturday, May 18, 2019.
He was born Oct. 3, 1961, in Charleston and was the son of the late Robert Lee Cox and Audrey Lee Hardy Cox.
Survivors include his wife Margaret Marie Welch Cox; daughter, Lauren Kirk of Coffeeville; step-daughters Lisa Kendall of Scobey and Terri Simpson; sisters Darnell Vaughn of Water Valley and Sandra Goodwin of Enid; six grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his brother Robert Lester Cox.
Services were Monday at Womble Funeral Home with interment at Magnolia Gardens Cemetery at Paynes.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
