Juanita Willis Barnes

Funeral services for Juanita “Nita” Willis Barnes of Durant, a native of Grenada, are Wednesday, May 1, at 11 a.m. at Washington Street Church of Christ with burial in Haven Rest Cemetery.
Mrs. Barnes, 70, died of natural causes at Durant Nursing Home on April 24, 2019. She was born on April 17, 1949.
Mrs. Barnes is survived by her son Kenyatta Willis; four sisters, Mamie Ledbetter, Linda Evans, Felicia Hughes and Cheryl Wilson, all of Grenada; and three brothers, Thomas Willis, Charles Willis and Eddie Willis, all of Grenada.

Edward Doyle Jones

Mr. Edward Doyle Jones, 64, of Grenada, passed away Saturday, April 27, 2019, at his son’s residence in Southaven.
He was born Aug. 14, 1954, to John D. and Bertha Louise Mathis Jones. Doyle spent most of his working life as an employee of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Grenada Lake and could always be found trying to help others when a need arose.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service with the Rev. James Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in Moore’s Memorial Cemetery in Carroll County. Family and friends will gather from noon until service time Tuesday at McKibben and Guinn.
Survivors include two sons, William Jones of Southaven and Jason Jones of Hernando; three sisters, Ann Earwood of Brandon, Irene Carpenter of Grenada and Eva Nell Covington of Oakland; and two brothers, Johnny Jones of California and Charlie Jones of Kosciusko.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Betty Canoy and two brothers, Chester Jones and Ricky Jones.

George Milton Slocum

A graveside service for George Milton Slocum of North Carrollton was Monday, April 29, in Evergreen Cemetery in North Carrollton.
Mr. Slocum, 86, died at his residence in North Carrollton on April 27, 2019. He was born in Carroll County to George Washington and Sadie Bennett Slocum on Dec. 8, 1932. He graduated from J.Z. George High School in North Carrollton in 1950 and attended Hinds Jr. College in Raymond for two years. Mr. Slocum retired from Leflore County Schools on June 30, 1998. He served the town of North Carrollton as alderman after 20 years, and he also served on the Election Commission for four years. Mr. Slocum was a U.S. Navy veteran who served during the Korean conflict. He was a member of North Carrollton Baptist Church.
Mr. Slocum is survived by his wife of 62 years Dianne Smith Slocum of North Carrollton; his son Steve Slocum of Carrollton; his sister Rebecca Campbell of Vaiden; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Pauline Jackson and Mary Joyce Fisher, and brother James Slocum.
Memorial contributions may be made to North Carrollton Baptist Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.
