Patsy Baxter Barley

Patsy Sue Baxter Barley, 59, of Grenada, departed this life on April 1, 2019, in Oxford.
She was born in Little Rock, Ark., on May 2, 1959, and was the daughter of Bob and Virginia Baxter. Her parents and a sister, Mary Jane Baxter, preceded her in death.
She was a Christian and a homemaker.
Survivors are her husband Jackie Barley; four daughters, Jennifer (Jeremy) Bradley of Dumas, Ark., Holly (Kelly) Persons of Star City, Ark., Kassie (Cody) Melton of Grenada; stepdaughter Angela Barley of Water Valley; five brothers, Robert “Bob” Baxter and Richard “Dick” Baxter, both of Watson, Ark., Sydney Baxter of McGehee, Ark., Bobby Gene “Tuffy” Baxter of Watson, Ark., and Henry Baxter of Hamburg, Ark.; three sisters, Betty Taylor of Cascilla, Ann Terry of Holcomb and Kathy Little of Holcomb; and three grandchildren, Bailey Bradley, Jacob Persons and Dean Melton, III.
Graveside services were Wednesday at Dark Corner Cemetery with the Rev. Jessie Venable officiating.

Michael Lynn Brown Jr.

Funeral services for Micheal L. “Levi Junky” Brown, Jr. of Grenada are Saturday at 3 p.m. at Greater Pine Hill M.B. Church with burial in Sweethome Cemetery.
Mr. Brown, 26, died of cancer at his home on March 30, 2019. He was born on Sept. 21, 1992.
Mr. Brown attended Grenada High School and Holmes Community College. He was a former factory worker who had a gift of making people laugh.
He is survived by his mother Scherie Brown of Grenada; father Micheal Brown of Grenada; sister Michelle Johnson of Grenada; two brothers, Tedrick Brown and Marquez Brown, both of Grenada.

Jenelle Martin Geiger

Mrs. Anna Jenelle Hill Martin Geiger, 91, of Grenada, passed away March 31, 2019, at Providence Assisted Living in Grenada.
She was born Oct. 9, 1927, in Scobey to Earl and Belle Pollan Hill.
Mrs. Geiger was a retired cafeteria manager from Jones Road Public School where she loved working around children for over 30 years. She was an avid gardener of both vegetables and beautiful flowers in her yard even into her mid-to-late 80s. She enjoyed cooking and was known for her wonderful dishes. If she had met you once, you could be assured of a hug, kiss or both every time she saw you from then on. She loved her God, her church, First Baptist Church of Grenada, where she was a faithful member for over 65 years & her children.
Funeral services were Thursday at First Baptist Church in Grenada with Dr. John Boler and Dr. Jim Nunnelee officiating. Interment was at the Grenada Memorial Garden.
Survivors include her three children, Steve (Sharon) Martin of Missouri City, Texas, Donna (David) Smith of Inverness, and Stan (Marie) Martin of Grenada; one sister Agnes Tribble of Grenada; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Brady Smith and Martin (Kristen) Smith of Inverness; Scott Dale, Robby Dale and Trisha Milazzo of Missouri City, Texas; Kayla (Grady) Carter of Oxford; Adrian Martin and Tori Martin of Grenada; seven great-grandchildren, Maisy and Luke Smith, Tyler and Taylor Milazzo, Tamra Flynn, Cameron Dale and Trista Martin; one great-great-grandchild, Henleigh Flynn; and a host of step-children and their families whom she loved dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband Raymond Martin; her second husband James T. Geiger, whom she enjoyed 16 years of marriage with following Mr. Martin’s death; two sisters, Earline Hill and Kathryn Harrison; four brothers, Johnny Hill, J.B. Hill, Earl Hill Jr. and Charles Hill.

Shay Bray Gillon, 46, of Water Valley, died Monday, April 1, 2019, at the Regional One Health in Memphis.

Robert A. Hurst Jr.

April 17, 1963 -April 2, 2019. Graveside services for Robert A. Hurst Jr. will be held Saturday at 1 p.m., at Valley Hill Methodist Church Cemetery in Carroll County.
Mr. Hurst, age 55, died April 2, 2019, at his residence in Batesville.
He was born on April 17, 1963, in Petersburg, Va., to Robert A. and Frances McGinnis Hurst.
Robert was a U.S. Navy Veteran of 23 years and was currently employed by AT&T. He was of the Baptist faith. His hobby was repairing old trucks, and he was a avid fan of the New Orleans Saints. Robert lived in Batesville for the past 14 years. He is preceded in death by his father.
He is survived by his wife Renee Overstreet Hurst of Batesville; daughters, Kelli Brown and Shelby Hurst of Batesville; son, Drew Hurst of Batesville; mother Frances M. Cummins of Holcomb; sister Elizabeth Grist of Vardaman; brother Bobby Hurst of Greenwood; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Saturday from 11 to 12:30 p.m. at Williams & Lord Funeral Home in Greenwood. The Rev. Rick Shepherd will officiate the services.
Pallbearers will be Tyler Brown, Corey Martin, Bill Barry Jr., Zach Boyett, Hayden Ross, and Haley Ross. Honorary Pallbearers will be employees of AT&T and DirectTV .
Military rites will be performed by the American Legion Post No. 29.

Johnie Marie Staten

While surrounded by her loving family, Mrs. Johnie Marie Staten of Tomball, Texas, formerly of Cascilla, passed away on March 30, 2019, following a brief illness.
On Dec. 20, 1927, she was born in Birmingham to Albert Percy Shook and Johnie Brown Shook.
She graduated from Northwest Junior College in 1946 and began her professional career as a teacher, then followed by working for the I.R.S. with her final working years in the medical profession.
Mrs. Staten was a member of Central Baptist Church in Grenada.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years Sanford Lee Staten and her brother Percy James Shook of Gonzales, La.
She is survived by daughter Tonya (David) Schick of Gurnee, Ill.; son Tim (Patty) Staten of Tomball, Texas; sister-in-law Mary F. Staten; brother-in-law Knoff Staten and her cousin and caregiver Linda Trujillio of Spring, Texas. She is survived by two grandsons and four great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Pressgrove Cemetery in Cascilla

Morris E. Tingle Jr.

Funeral services for Morris Edward Tingle Jr., 88, of Grenada, were Tuesday at Sparta United Methodist Church near Holcomb. Burial was in the Sparta Cemetery..
Mr. Tingle died Saturday, March 30, 2019, at the Grenada Living Center.
He was born on May 24, 1930, in Leflore and was the son of the late Morris Edward Tingle and Margaret Estelle Parker Tingle.
Mr. Tingle was employed by the local cable television company for many years as a manager. He was a member Sparta United Methodist Church. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1949 to 1952.
Morris was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Nell Ruth Tingle; his daughter Brenda Kaye Tingle Freeman; and his son Barry Edward Tingle.
He is survived by his wife Earline Tingle of Holcomb; daughters, Carolyn Grace and Sara Smith, both of Money; sons, Thomas Gregory Tingle (Grace) of Corpus Christi, Texas, Lee Smith (Annette) of Holcomb and Fred Smith of Greenwood; daughter-in-law Judy Tingle of Holcomb; sisters, Rita Bonner of Leflore and Agatha Tanner (Stuart) of Houma, La.; brother Henry Tingle (Barbara) of Collierville, Tenn.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Beatrice Fox Tompkins

Funeral services for Beatrice Fox Tompkins of Winona were held Wednesday at New Hope United Methodist Church in Winona. Burial was at the Winona Garden of Memory.
Mrs. Tompkins, 86, died at her home on Monday, April 1, 2019. She was born on June 1, 1932, and was the daughter of the late William Harvey and Lilla Ruth Chandler Fox. She was a retired office manager for Missisippi Power and Light Company and a member of New Hope United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.
Mrs. Tompkins is survived by her husband Bodean Tompkins of Winona; two daughters, Nina Ruth Welch of Grenada and Beth Harrison of Kilmichael; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

James Q. Webb Jr.

Funeral services for James Quay Webb Jr., 57, of Grenada, were Wednesday, at Mortimer National Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial was in Grenada Memorial Gardens.
James died Sunday, March 31, 2019, at his home.
He was born on May 25, 1961, in Grenada and was the son of the late James Quay Webb and Christine Bross Webb.
Mr. Webb was employed for many years as a deputy sheriff for Grenada County. He was a graduate of Kirk Academy. James was a member of the First Baptist Church in Grenada. He was also a member of Ducks Unlimited.
He is survived by his companion Thomas Hollis of Grenada, and his family, Lori Colf of Greenwood, Ben Hollis of Florida, Wesley and Kendi Hollis of Carrollton, Yelena Fike of Sunflower, Brian Hollis of Ohio, Deonna Baney of Cabot, Ark., Angie DiPiaolo of Akron, New York, and several nieces and nephews. James is also survived by special friends, Michelle Brown and Jerlyn Brown.
