Battling high water and muddy water conditions, the Magnolia Crappie Club had its annual club tournament and Big Mama Open Saturday at Grenada Lake.
A total of 67 teams took part in the seven-hour event. Seven of the competing teams caught the seven limit fish.
The competing teams caught a total of 195 fish. All of those fish were released. Average weight caught was 1.64 pounds. Teams caught an average of just over three fish.
“Overall, it was a good day for our fishermen,” Club Vice-President Bernard Williams said. When you spread fish over a bigger area, they are harder to find.”
A number of the teams were either father/son or grandfather/grandson.
“Our club is all about family,” Williams said. “It was good to see so many father/son, grandfather/grandson teams taking part.”
When the day was done, the father/son team of Terry and Cole Stewart emerged as the winner of the tournament. They had the limit of seven fish that weighed a combined 15.05 pounds.
