Incumbents first to qualify

Candidates wasted no time throwing their names into the hat for this year’s county, district and statewide elections.
The qualifying window started last week, and the deadline is March 1.
The primary election will be Tuesday, Aug. 6 2019, and the general election is set for Tuesday, Nov. 5.
Incumbents were especially fast to the draw with the majority of the already-elected officials jumping out first in hopes of winning reelection.
Grenada County Sheriff Alton Strider filed the necessary papers Friday afternoon in the circuit clerk’s office and is seeking his seventh term in office.
District One Supervisor Michael Lott, District Two Supervisor Chad Bridges, District Three Supervisor Columbus Hankins, District Four Supervisor Darrell Robinson and District Five Supervisor Chad Gray have all qualified.
All three county clerks have also qualified: Chancery Clerk Johnny Hayward, Circuit Clerk Michele Redditt-Garcia and Tax Assessor/Tax Collector David Melton.
Both justice court judges have decided to seek another term. Judges Leon Williamson and Jimmy Tallant have a combined 12 terms between them.
In an interesting yet early twist, two have qualified for the Grenada County District Two Constable seat.
