Lady Chargers shocked in playoff opener

Sports Editor

You could hear the concern in Grenada High School softball coach Leslie Lancaster’s voice as her team prepared for their second round Class III Playoff series at home with Columbus.
The concern came from the struggles her team had been going through the last several weeks. GHS had struggled to score runs in a sport, that you have to score.
Her worst fears were realized.
In Game one, Grenada fell behind 6-1 and was able to get within 6-5. Columbus held off a late rally and claimed an 8-7 win.
The second game was a different story. GHS built leads of 10-2 and 12-5 before the Lady Falcons rallied to send the game to extra innings.
In the bottom of the eighth, Grenada’s defense let them down and Columbus claimed a 14-13 extra inning win.
With the win, the Lady Falcons advance to the North semifinals against NW Rankin. GHS finishes its season 20-5.
