Charles Coleman Beck

Charles Coleman Beck, 80, of Grenada, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2018, at his residence.
He was born Sept. 16, 1938, in Carroll County to Clarence Coleman and Tessie Carpenter Beck. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church and had worked as a rancher for 40 years at L.S. Hall Farms.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service with the Rev. John Gray and the Rev. Gary Tanner officiating.  Interment will follow in the Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery in the Jefferson Community of Carroll County.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Friday at McKibben and Guinn.
Survivors include his wife Joyce DeLoach Beck; three sons, Ray Beck (Kathy) of Grenada, Bill Beck (Lynne) of Columbus and Danny Beck (Patty) of Carrollton; two sisters, Polly Montgomery of Vaiden and Peggy Holloway of Grenada; one brother Jimmy Dale Beck of Grenada; and seven grandchildren, Katie Beck Swain, Austin Beck, Kassandra Beck, Jeb Beck, Cooper Beck, Mathis Beck and Noah Beck.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Doris Lott, Aileen Allison, Ruby Fay Pierce and Joy Dean Simmons; and two brothers, J.W. Beck and James Beck.
Pallbearers will be Austin Beck, Cooper Beck, Jeb Beck, Mathis Beck, Noah Beck and Will Hall.  Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Beck, Bubba DeLoach, Richard Hall Jr. and Richard Hall III.

Dr. J.D. Harper

Funeral services for Dr. J.D. Harper, 89, a long-time Grenada dentist, are incomplete.
Dr. Harper died Sept. 26, 2018, at North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point.

Alice Hayes

Funeral services for Alice Hayes of Batesville, formerly of Coffeeville, are Saturday at 11 a.m. at Springhill South M.B. Church.
Mrs Hayes, 101, died Sept. 25, 2018. She was born on June 10, 1917. Mrs, Hayes enjoyed talking on the phone, meeting new people, reconnecting with old friends.
Mrs. Hayes is survived by one daughter Cleo Marie Hayes Hentz.

Wayne Nelson James

Funeral services for Wayne N. James of Grenada are Saturday at 1 p.m. at Greater Powell Chapel A.M.E. Church with burial in Haven Rest Cemetery.
Mr. James, 48, died Sept. 23, 2018, at UMMC-Grenada. He was born on June 16, 1969. Mr. James enjoyed entertaining and driving people to various locations.
Mr. James is survived by two sisters, Teresa James and Sandra James; and a brother Willie Earl James, all of Grenada.

Judy Hayden Mims

Judy Hayden Mims passed away on the evening of Sept. 24, 2018, at her home in Holcomb.
Born Oct. 18, 1947, to Dotson “Dot” Hayden and Mary Gary Hayden, Judy was the youngest of their three daughters. After graduating from John Rundle High School, she obtained a degree in Biology from Mississippi State College for Women.
On Aug. 15, 1971, Judy married her soulmate, Marvin Taylor Mims. She is survived by her husband and their three children, Marvin Russell Mims (Toni) of Holcomb, Allison Mims Melton (Corey) of Holcomb and Hayden Mims Linley (Robbie) of Clarksdale. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, John Lake Melton, Mary Hayden Melton, Noah Linley, Jana Mims, Taylor Melton, Russell Mims, Anna Mims Linley and Sarah Melton, whom she adored and was likewise adored.
Like her two older sisters, Dorothy Hayward of Holcomb and Mary Ethel Muns of Madison, Judy was known for her striking blue eyes and ready smile. For many years, Judy served as a faithful member of Holcomb Baptist Church, serving on a variety of committees in service to her church family. She possessed a special gift for music, which she shared along with her love for the Lord as long-time church organist and choir member.
Judy leaves a legacy of love, service, and kindness in the hearts and minds of all who knew her. One of her many talents was that of cooking and entertaining family and friends. She shared that gift as well by leading a team of devoted employees at Mr. Jiffy, who loved her as a friend and mentor. A devoted spouse, mother, grandmother, and friend, she was a constant encourager, full of grace and dignity. Both her exuberant spirit and boundless energy will be sorely missed by all who had the blessing of having known her.
Funeral services were Thursday at Holcomb Baptist Church. Interment was in the Holcomb Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Andy Brasher, Josh Coffman, Robert Smith, Hunt Toole, Mike Turner and Larry Wiggins.

Eloise Pannell

Eloise Pannell, 85, of Winona died at Grace Health and Rehab in Grenada on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018.
She was born on Sept. 26, 1932, and was the daughter of the late Sam Riley and Mary Lou Yates Green. She was a retired nurse’s aide at Tyler Holmes Memorial Hospital and was a member of Eskridge Baptist Church at Eskridge.
Mrs. Pannell is survived by her sons, Cleve Taylor of Winona and Mike Taylor of Duck Hill, and one grandson.
A graveside memorial service was held Thursday at Eskridge Cemetery at Eskridge.

Ralph Edward Pottorff

Memorial services for Ralph Edward Pottorff, 62, of Grenada, are at 3 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Mortimer National Funeral Home Chapel in Grenada.
Visitation is Saturday from 2 to 3 p.m. at Mortimer National Funeral Home.
Mr. Pottorff died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2018, at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford. He was born on Sept. 22, 1956, in Dewitt, Ark., and was the son of the late John Pottorff and Opal Haliburton Pottorff.
Ralph was a construction superintendent and a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter LeAnn Pottorff and one sister Doris Pottorff.
Ralph is survived by his wife Fannie Pottorff of Grenada; one daughter Kimberly Pottorff of Grenada; one son Ralph Edward Pottorff Jr. of Kentucky; two brothers; and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mal G. Sallie of Grenada are Saturday at 2 p.m. at First New Hope M.B. Church with burial in Haven Rest Cemetery.
Mr. Sallie, 89, died of natural causes on Sept. 24, 2018. He was born on June 22, 1929. Mr. Sallie was a member of the Silvertones Gospel Group.
Mr. Sallie is survived by his wife Emma L. Sallie of Grenada; six daughters, Lula Faye Brown and Laura Ann Sallie, both of Grenada; Felicia Golliday of Grand Rapids, Mich., Denise Golliday of Toledo, Ohio; Wanda Ellis of Atlanta and Angela Golliday of Germantown, Tenn.; a sister Verlean Sallie Berry of Grenada.
