Second quarter TD propels Marshall past Kirk

With less than a minute left in the first half against Marshall Academy, the Kirk Raiders found themselves trailing 14-6.
Ken Chandler’s team had put together a drive that was eventually stopped on downs deep in Marshall territory. Then, the Kirk defense forced a turnover giving the offense the ball at the Patriots 30. They would eventually score but miss the extra point.
Then, the play of the game happened.
After kicking to Marshall, the Patriots broke a 55-yard run for a touchdown to lead 21-6 at halftime. They went on to add two more scores and won a 34-14 decision.
With the loss, the Raiders are 1-3 on the season. Marshall improved to 3-1.
The late score was a dagger for Kirk.
“It was a big play in the game,” Chandler said. “If we keep it 14-6 at halftime, then the score we had to start the second half would have tied the game. He just scored untouched.”
