Marguerite Burkley

Marguerite Finney Burkley, 100 years old, began her birthday celebration at Grenada Rehab and Healthcare Center, Sept. 8, 2018.
During that afternoon, Marguerite, affectionately known as Marge, took the celebration to her heavenly home. Marguerite was born on Sept. 8, 1918, in Canton.
She graduated from Grenada High School and attended Grenada College. Marge worked at South Central Bell Telephone Company and worked 20 years with the Grenada School District as a secretary, teacher assistant, and library assistant. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she served as an Elder and a Sunday School teacher.
Survivors include one son, Earle Burkley, Jr., of Jackson, and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great nieces, and great-great nephews.
Marguerite was preceded in death by her husband, Earle Burkley, Sr., her parents, Albert Raymond Finney and Annie Lindsey Lavender Finney, her sisters, Sara Neely, Bessie Mae Heath, Anna Rose Poole, Billie Townes, Mary Cutler, and one brother, George Finney.
A true Southern lady, Marguerite was well respected and loved in Grenada. Marge grew up on Glenwild Plantation, where her father was the caretaker of the 600 acre plantation, south of Grenada. Marge was well known for being an avid bridge player and taught many people how to play bridge. She loved to entertain with family and friends.
Marguerite was very involved in her church and is especially remembered for bringing unchurched children to Sunday School. Marge’s secret to longevity was pray every day, laugh every day, and keep plenty of young friends around.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, at First Presbyterian Church in Grenada. Interment will follow in the Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from noon until service time Tuesday at the church.

George Davis

George Herbert Davis, age 80, of Grenada, died Friday, Sept. 7, 2018 at UMMC-Grenada.
He was born on Dec. 24, 1937 in Indianola, and was the son of the late Loyce Timothy Davis and Agnes Lee Wablinton Davis.
George was a farmer and a Baptist. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He is survived by two sons, George Davis, Jr. and Greg Davis; one step-daughter, Tracy Davis; two sisters, Patricia Ann Smith and Carolyn Carter; and five brothers, Douglas Davis, Bobby H, Davis, Bobby T. Davis, Johnny Lee Davis, and Lonnie Dean Davis.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at the Mortimer Funeral Home Chapel in Greenville, Mississippi

Jennie Huffman McCluskey

Mrs. Jennie Faye Huffman McCluskey, 53, of Grenada, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2018 at her residence.
She was the wife of William Leroy “Gator” McCluskey who also passed away the same day.  She was born Aug. 18, 1965 in Bruce. Jennie Faye was a graduate of Vardaman High School and attended Clarke College.
She had worked for many years as a PSE Clerk for the United States Postal Service, and was a member of Gore Springs Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada.  The family will receive friends from 5-8  p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, and one hour prior to the service all at McKibben and Guinn.
Survivors include one daughter, Stephanie McCluskey of Grenada; one son, Luke McCluskey of Grenada; two grandchildren, Victoria Brooks and Jamioun McCluskey; and six sisters, Jessie Harville, and Laura Beth Hardin of Bruce, Marsha Reynolds and Laura Logan of Buckhorn and Linda Huffman of Tupelo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, J.Y. and Opal Huffman and a brother, John Wayne Huffman.

William McCluskey

William Leroy “Gator” McCluskey, 53, of Grenada, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2018 at his residence.
He was the husband of Jennie Faye Huffman McCluskey who also passed away the same day. Gator was born Nov. 9, 1964 in Houston to William Leroy and Geraldine Reeves McCluskey.  He had worked for many years as a self-employed electrical contractor and was a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church in Calhoun County.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada.  Interment will follow in the Bethany Cemetery in Slate Springs.  The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, and one hour prior to the service all at McKibben and Guinn.
Survivors include one daughter, Stephanie McCluskey of Grenada; one son, Luke McCluskey of Grenada; two grandchildren, Victoria Brooks and Jamioun McCluskey; and a special cousin, Carroll Gregg of Houston.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
