Carroll Academy and Kirk Academy have been playing each other in football for years.
Each time, the games have been competitive and, for the most part, been a fight to the end.
Tonight, the two teams get together again at Rebel Stadium. Both coaches expect the game to be down to the wire.
“It’s a game that needs to be played every season,” Kirk coach Ken Chandler said. “The schools are just a few miles apart. Most of the players know each other. It’s a natural rivalry.”
Fourth year Carroll coach Bo Milton agreed.
“This game needs to be played very season,” Milton said. “Our enrollment numbers and player numbers are close. Both schools will bring big crowds with the closeness.”
Last season’s game came down to the final drive. With the scored tied 6-6, Kirk was driving with the ball around midfield. Morgan Mims picked off a pass and went 65 yards for the touchdown as the Rebels won a 13-6 decision.
