A new fitness landmark will soon find its home at Holmes Community College, giving not only students but area walkers a safe place to exercise.
According to Michelle Burney, vice president of the HCC Grenada campus, a walking trail is being constructed on the campus.
“This is going to be a really neat addition to our campus,” Burney said. “This gives those who exercise in the area a place to come to get their work out.”
According to Trent Little, HCC-Grenada’s maintenance director, the walking trail will be half a mile long, and equipped with 18 lights.
Officials at HCC said a trail will also be added to the Ridgeland campus, giving all three campuses walking trails.
“The Goodman campus already has a walking trail,” Burney said. “For us to finally be getting one is huge, because we don’t have a fitness room on this campus.”
For the past week, crews with Double S Construction of Grenada have broken ground on the campus.
Burney said the trail will take the same pattern as Grandview Drive, starting at the campus’ industrial technology building and to Phillips Hall.
