Mary Louise “Jody” Strider, the wife of Grenada County Sheriff Alton Strider, is currently in serious condition following a Sunday afternoon accident.
The sheriff’s 71-year-old wife was involved in a one-car accident along U.S. 82 around 5:30 p.m. when her Ford Explorer hydroplaned during a storm between Kilmichael and Stewart.
“She and my son and daughter-in-law were on their way to a revival in Winona when the car hydroplaned in that weather,” Strider said.
Mrs. Strider suffered several broken ribs, a collapsed lung, a broken arm and fractures in her neck and back. She is currently at the Northeast Mississippi Regional Medical Center in Tupelo.
“The injury to her neck and back will heal in time, but the issue right now is the broken ribs and lung,” Strider said. “There’s some discomfort in breathing there, so we’re watching that pretty closely.”
Skeeter Strider and his wife Kelley were not seriously injured.
