One man is dead and another is facing a murder charge following a Saturday night shooting.
Grenada Police Chief Garrett Hartley identified the victim as 43-year-old Mario Price, who was found lying in the middle of Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard around 8:30.
A few hours later officers arrested a man Hartley identified as David Tidwell Jr., 43, and charged him with murder in connection with the case.
According to Hartley, an officer was the first to discover Price in the street, bleeding from the chest area. Price was lying near the South Street intersection.
“We’re still in the middle of the investigation and know that several shots were fired,” Hartley said. “The crime lab is performing an autopsy, so we can’t say how many times the victim was struck or the type of weapon used.”
Medics with the University of Mississippi Medical Center could be seen trying to revive a man before leaving the scene. Officials said he died en route to the hospital.
Around 1 a.m., Hartley said officers arrested Tidwell in Grenada without incident.
Tidwell is being held at the Grenada County Jail on $100,000 bond.
This is the first of the year in the city.
