Second arrest in hit-and-run

The mother of a man charged with manslaughter in connection with a hit-and-run that occurred Saturday was arrested Wednesday by the Grenada County Sheriff’s Department.
Grenada County Sheriff Alton Strider identified the woman as Betty Costilow, 58. Costilow was charged with accessory after the fact. She was released Thursday on a $10,000 bond.
Monday night the sheriff’s department arrested a man authorities identified as Phillip J. Knichel, 37, and charged him with manslaughter in connection with the hit-and-run. Both suspects have a Bolton Hill Road address.
The arrests are in connection with the death of Justin Murphree who was struck by a vehicle on Nat G. Troutt Road early Saturday morning. Murphree was hit by a car while attending to his motorcycle near the Barnside Road intersection. Deputies said the motorcycle’s hazard lights were on.
