Car tested in fatal hit-and-run

Staff Writer

A car has been sent to the State Crime Lab as the Grenada County Sheriff’s Department tries to determine what happened in a hit-and-run that resulted in the death of a local man Saturday morning.
The victim, identified by County Investigator Josh Dale as 36-year-old Justin Murphree of Grenada, was struck by the vehicle in south Grenada County.
Dale said the sheriff’s department was dispatched to a hit-and-run around 1:05 a.m. on Nat G. Troutt Road near Barnside Road.
“When deputies arrived they discovered that the victim had been struck by a vehicle,” Dale said. “Both the victim and the motorcycle that was parked had been struck.”
Dale said a woman with Murphree was not injured in the accident. The two were not on the motorcycle at the time it was hit, he said.
According to Dale, the vehicle left the scene after its involvement in the accident.
