The contract for Bill Buck, the interim CEO at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, has ended and officials close to the hospital say a new hospital leader will soon be announced.
According to Assistant Media Director at UMMC, a person will be named to the position “in the next week or two.”
James Caldwell, chief nursing officer at UMMC Grenada, is taking the lead at the hospital until a new leader is selected.
“Mr. Buck had a 60 day contract with the hospital, it expired and he has now left,” Caldwell said. “He served the hospital very well, and did an outstanding job at speaking to the community and leaders throughout.”
Buck entered into his contract in February following the resignation of Don Hutson, who served as hospital CEO for almost two years.
After arriving in Grenada, Buck appeared before several meetings and occasions throughout the city. Two weeks ago, he met with a neighborhood watch meeting for citizens of Ward Two after being invited by Grenada City Councilman Fredreick “Pete” Wilson.
“I asked him to come and address some of the issues with the hospital and he did just that,” Wilson said. “That’s what you want out of a hospital executive.”
Caldwell said Buck’s purpose was to be a responsive leader and after hearing from the people, he passed that information on to the next CEO.
“Even though the hospital is the university’s, it’s still Grenada’s hospital,” Caldwell said. “This hospital has a very big financial impact, and represents the community well.
Caldwell was not told when the next CEO would publicly be named to lead the Grenada and Holmes County branches of UMMC, but he said he has been introduced and was impressed.
