A high-speed chase involving a Gore Springs man and the Webster County Sheriff’s Department ended in a shooting in East Grenada County.
According to Grenada County Sheriff Alton Strider, the shooting happened Saturday afternoon near Millhouse Road at Highway 8 East.
Strider identified the man shot as Robert Salley, 44, of Gore Springs.
Strider said the incident started at a roadblock on Highway 9 near Walthall in Webster County.
“We’re being told that a vehicle turned around at a roadblock, and a chase ensued involving two Webster County deputies,” Strider said.
Strider said that the two Webster County deputies chased the vehicle across Highway 9 and eventually to Highway 8 where they entered Grenada County.
“The driver of the vehicle traveled westbound on Highway 8 and turned around on Millhouse Road,” Strider said. “The deputies claim that the driver tried to run them over.”
Strider said that during the pursuit, shots were fired and that Salley was shot twice in the back shoulder.
