At least one hurt in chase

Staff Writer

A Duck Hill resident is at the Med in Memphis after his car was rammed while officers pursued another car during a high speed chase on Interstate 55.

Authorities did not name the occupant of the innocent vehicle hit, but family members identified Holly Piner of Duck Hill as the injured man.

According to Panola County Sheriff Dennis Darby, the Saturday chase started in DeSoto County when officers with the Hernando Police Department began pursuit of a stolen vehicle.

Multiple law enforcement agencies became involved in the chase as it continued south on I-55 for nearly 70 miles and through four counties.

“Our department became involved with the case when it came through our county,” Darby said. “The suspect wasn’t going to stop and was as reckless as I’ve ever seen a suspect running.”
