County and state law officers, including SWAT personnel, were on the scene of a “situation” this afternoon on Interstate 55 near the Highway 7 exit.
A medical helicopter and an armored bomb squad truck were also sighted.
Both lanes of the Interstate are closed and traffic is backed up for miles.
Some sources say the incident is a possible “kidnap” situation. The Mississippi Highway Patrol confirms that the SWAT team was called by the Grenada County Sheriff’s Department.
The Interstate is closed from mile marker 208 to mile marker 220.
