The University of Mississippi Medical Center-Grenada is currently without an orthopedic clinic following the departure of a well-known surgeon.
According to Don Hutson, CEO of UMMC-Grenada, the hospital’s orthopedic clinic has been temporarily closed until a surgeon is hired.
Hutson said Dr. John Speca is no longer with the hospital.
“We are actively recruiting an orthopedic surgeon,” Hutson said.
Hutson did not give a timeline on when a new full time orthopedic surgeon would be hired.
Speca came to Grenada in 2014, and prior to that had been a surgical doctor in Indiana, Ohio, and Tennessee. He was also a familiar face on the sidelines of Grenada High School football games as the emergency doctor.
“We wish Dr. Speca nothing but the best in his endeavors,” Hutson said.
