Police are investigating the shooting death of a 16-year-old at a home on Jackson Avenue Thursday morning.

Police identified the victim as Lonell Diggins, who was pronounced dead at the scene when authorities arrived.

Assistant Police Chief Maj. George Douglas said the victim was discovered at a residence in the 3000 block of Jackson Avenue. Douglas said police arrived at the scene around 4:45 a.m.

“Upon arrival the police discovered the body of the victim lying on the floor inside the home,” Douglas said. “Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim had been shot while inside the residence.”

Douglas said Diggins did not live at the residence. A weapon was present at the scene, but Douglas would not say what type of weapon was recovered.
