Unrelated incidents during the holiday weekend left a young Grenada man dead and two individuals robbed at gunpoint.
According to Capt. George Douglas with the Grenada Police Department, a man he identified as Joshua Deemer, 24, was pronounced dead on the scene at a house in the 400 block of Poplar Street shortly after 6 p.m. Sunday.
A preliminary investigation revealed that Deemer died of a gunshot wound, Douglas said, adding that the body had been sent to the state crime lab for an autopsy.
An investigation is ongoing, Douglas said, adding that the Grenada County Sheriff’s Office and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation are assisting.
Two men are in custody after an apparent armed robbery in which another man was shot on Aug. 29, an official said.
According to Douglas, a man he identified as Reginald Tidwell, 29, was shot and transported by ambulance to the University of Mississippi Medical Center Grenada after he was apparently robbed.
Tidwell was treated for his injuries and released.
Police responded at 2:22 p.m. to a call on the 500 block of Moose Lodge Road, Douglas said.
An investigation led to the arrests of men Douglas identified as Dexter Brown, 21, and Trayveon Deondre Ringo, 17.
Both men are charged with one count of aggravated assault and one count of armed robbery and are being held on $100,000 bonds at the Grenada County Jail, Douglas said.
An investigation is ongoing.
Police are looking for at least two suspects who robbed the Holiday Inn Express hotel Sunday.
According to Douglas, the female clerk on duty reported at 11:08 p.m. that two males, dressed in black, with their faces covered and brandishing weapons, entered the building.
The men demanded money and made away with an undisclosed amount, Douglas said.
No one was injured.
The GPD invites anyone with information about the robbery to make an anonymous call to (662) 227-TIPS.
