The Grenada Area Chamber of Commerce has created a nonprofit organization through which it can receive donations that are tax deductable.
According to Chamber Executive Director Larry Collins, Friends of the Grenada Chamber Foundation, Inc., received a letter from the Internal Revenue Service earlier this week, confirming its status as a 501(c)(3).
“Since coming onboard I’ve been working with the IRS to get this status because most all of our efforts at the chamber are charitable,” said Collins.
“Through Friends of the Grenada Chamber Foundation, our members can make donations and pay dues and they’re tax deductible. We’ll still operate as we always have but we hope that existing members will be more willing to donate to our functions and perhaps new, perspective members will find his an incentive to join, as well,” said Collins.
The Grenada Area Chamber of Commerce currently has 325 members, according to Collins.
