The Elliott Volunteer Fire Department headed up an effort to extinguish a fire at a local sawmill Saturday.
According to Chief Corey Alexander, the EVFD responded shortly after 6 p.m. to a fire at Hankins Lumber Company on Highway 51 South.
When crews arrived they found that sawdust had caught fire in one of the vacuum cylinders outside the mill.
The elevated cylinders are shaped much like water towers, or grain silos, and are designed to store sawdust once the vacuum pulls it out of the mill.
