Walter Edgar Barbee
   Walter Edgar “Teeny” Barbee, 96, passed away Monday, May 19, 2014, in Grenada. Visitation was held at Garner-Harper Funeral Home on Thursday, May 22, from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Garner-Harper Funeral Home. Burial followed a graveside service in the Barbee family cemetery in Lula, Miss., at 2 p.m.
   Walter was born on Jan. 30, 1918, in Lula, to Walter and Virginia Barbee.
   He graduated from Lula Rich High School in 1936, and attended Mississippi State College where he was a member of the Maroon Band. He later attended Miss Wylie’s Business Training School in Memphis. Walter worked as a bookkeeper for Citizen’s Bank and Trust in Marks, Miss., before entering the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942, where he was attached to the Finance Department.
   After his time in the service, Walter co-owned and operated Graeber Brothers Propane Gas in Grenada, Calhoun City, and Derma until the business was sold in 2007. Walter was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time with his friends at the Grenada Country Club and later, Perry Creek Golf and Racquet Club. Walter was a member of First Baptist Church in Grenada.
   Walter was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Byrne Barbee; his parents, Walter Elijah Barbee and Virginia Bridger Barbee; his sister, Mildred Barbee; his brother, William Lester Barbee; and his nephew, William Arthur Barbee.
   Survivors include his sister-in-law, Bobbie Barbee; three nephews, one niece; and several great-nieces and nephews.
   Garner-Harper Funeral Home in Grenada was in charge.

Raymond Boyd Bruner
   A memorial service for Raymond Boyd Bruner, 77, of Water Valley, is at noon Saturday, May 24, at Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley.
   Visitation is Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon at the funeral home.
   Mr. Bruner died May 19, 2014, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.  
   He was born on July 23, 1937, in Water Valley, to the late Raymond Harris and Rosie Gore Bruner.  
   Mr. Bruner was a member of North Main Street Methodist Church in Water Valley, was an avid wrestling fan, enjoyed traveling, eating out, reading, watching old movies and working in his yard.
   In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Tutor and Irene Cheatham; and his brother, Roy Bruner.
   Mr. Bruner is survived by his niece, Natascha Bruner of Water Valley; his nephew, Michael Bruner of Heathsville, Va.; three great-nieces and nephews; his close friends, Vivian Snider, Margaret Beard and Mike Redwine, all of Water Valley; and a host of relatives.

Michael S. Cole Sr.
   Michael “Mike” S. Cole Sr., 63, of Holcomb, passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at his home. Visitation was held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 22, at Garner-Harper Funeral Home in Grenada.
   Mike was born on Dec. 9, 1950, in Grenada.
   A registered nurse, Mike served as the Director of Surgical Services at Grenada Lake Medical Center before retiring. He was a man of many “Loves,” including his family, music, and playing golf at Perry Creek Golf and Racquet Club where he also helped out in the pro shop.
   Of these “Loves,” Mike’s biggest love was the wife of 38 years he leaves behind, Kay. He was a sweet, loving, and caring man who always had both a hug or a shoulder to cry on for whoever might have needed it. Mike’s philosophy was “Don’t sweat the small stuff, because it’s all small stuff.”
   Mike is survived by his wife, Kay, of Holcomb; his mother, Peggy Cole Boyette of Geeslin Corner; four sons and their wives, including Nathan and Shannon Stricklen of Albany, Okla., Chris and Sabrina Stricklen of Holcomb, Michael Cole Jr. of Jasper, Ala., and Shaun and Viktoriya Cole of Atlanta, Ga.; his brother, Robert Boyette of Geeslin Corner; his sister, Tammy Boyette Kripp of Gore Springs; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
   Mike was preceded in death by his brother, Wade Grimes; and his sister, Darlene Jackson.

G.W. Dowdle
   Funeral services for G.W. “Buddy” Dowdle, 77, of Grenada, were at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 22, 2014, at National Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Woodlawn Cemetery in Grenada.
   Mr. Dowdle died May 20, 2014, at his daughter’s residence.  
   He was born on Feb. 13, 1937, and was the son of Gaston and Jnettie Dowdle of Oxberry.
   Mr. Dowdle was employed by Hugh White State Park as a maintenance man until his retirement. He was a Baptist and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
   He is survived by his wife, Clara Mae Adams Dowdle of Grenada; one daughter, Rhonda Bennett of Grenada; one sister, Virginia Rutland of Grenada; one brother, Sonny Dowdle of Grenada; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Joseph Terry Whitmire
   A memorial service for Joseph Terry Whitmire, 59, of Winona, will be held at a later date.
   Mr. Whitmire died May 21, 2014, at his residence of cancer.  
   He was born on Feb. 17, 1955, in Winona.  
   Mr. Whitmire was an engineer and surveyor for Baker Construction in Jackson for 35 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.  
   Mr. Whitmire was preceded in death by his father, Truman Whitmire.
   He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Connie Whitmire; his mother, Mary Bramlett; two daughters, Jeannie Rogers and Jessica Waddell Hardwick; a son, Clark Waddell III; two sisters, Tammy Whitmire and Belinda Hamilton; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
