Grenada man faces murder charge

Staff Writer

Grenada police have formally charged a man with murder in connection with the death of a young woman found dead in her apartment early Wednesday.
According to Capt. George Douglas, a man he identified as James Williams, 34, of Grenada, now faces murder charges in connection with the death of Candice D. Davis, 33, who was unresponsive in her apartment on the 300 block of Main St. around 12:35 a.m.
Davis was pronounced dead on the scene by Grenada County Coroner Eddie “Skeeter” Robinson, Douglas said.
Williams was arrested in Memphis around 2 a.m. Thursday by federal marshals. He was picked up on a warrant issued for his arrest in Akron, Ohio, for violation of a protection order Davis had against him, Douglas said.
“Williams is awaiting extradition to Grenada and he should be at the Grenada County Jail within a couple of days,” Douglas said.
Douglas would not comment as to a cause of death, only that Davis was not found in a pool of blood.

Townes Case

In a separate case, Douglas confirmed that another murder victim was shot to death.
Izzic Terrell Townes, 43, apparently died of a single gunshot wound he suffered while a dice game was taking place in a house on the 600 block of Govan Street, according to Douglas.
Townes was struck in the upper torso, according to Douglas.
Police received the call shortly before 3 a.m. Friday, Douglas said.
The captain would not say what caliber weapon was used.
