Civil War reenactments coming to Grenada Lake

Staff Writer

Battle lines will be drawn at Grenada Lake Grenada Lake on Feb. 7-9.
Civil War enthusiasts from the 27th Mississippi Infantry Division, under the name of Major
General Patrick Cleburne, will recreate an authentic Confederate winter encampment at the restored Confederate fort.
They’ll cook over an open fire, sleep in primitive tents and fire muskets for all to see. They’ll conduct military drills, answer questions and put on a great show, according to one participant.
“Basically we’ll be doing the things that a group of soldiers would do during the winter months, preparing for spring campaigns,” said Jon Garrett, a stone mason and farmer from Kosciusko, holding the rank of Brigadeer General.
“We’re very passionate about what we do, and we want to inform the public and to welcome people to be part of the experience,” said Garrett.
