County moves to pay real estate developer

Staff Writer

The Grenada Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday to reimburse an Oxford real estate developer and his partners for what the state’s Supreme Court ruled were excessive taxes.
The county will pay Clarence Chapman and his partners in Chartre Consulting Limited $243,691 for taxes levied on the 63 homes in the Sundown Gardens subdivision, according to Tax Assessor David Melton.
The county wisely kept the tax revenue in an escrow account, Melton said, waiting on the Supreme Court’s decision, so the board won’t have to dip into its primary budget to pay the money.
