Residents of Grenada County and its environs no longer have to drive to Batesville or Greenwood to get their driver’s licenses renewed since the new Mississippi Highway Patrol station opened Friday.
Grenada has been without an MHP office since June 2012, when the old office was closed because the building was in disrepair.
The new 1,500-square-foot facility hit the ground running just before the weekend, and business is robust, according to the office’s commanding officer.
“We’ve seen a good turnout, and we’re happy to offer this convenience to the citizens of Grenada and the surrounding areas,” said. Master Sgt. Ola Kirk with the MHP.
Kirk is stationed with Troop D out of Greenwood, and works in Grenada a couple of days a week to oversee operations.
Computer-based driver’s license testing, license renewal, reinstating suspended licenses and issuing of ID cards are among the services the new station offers, Kirk said.
It is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., is closed for lunch, and is located next to the County Office Building on Mound Street.
