Lady Chargers blank Cleveland in soccer action

   The Grenada High School girls and boys soccer team got back to action this past Friday following the Christmas break.
   It was a good start for the Lady Chargers as they improved to 8-4 with a 5-0 win over Cleveland. The Chargers lost a decision to Cleveland in a penalty kick shootout. A day later, they dropped a couple of matches in tournament action at Oxford.

   Landyn Hoover scored at the 26-minute mark to make it 1-0. Kaila White added a goal at the two-minute mark to make it 2-0 on an assist from Tori DuBard.
   The first half scoring ended as DuBard added a goal on an assist from Hoover, making it 3-0 at halftime.
   DuBard scored in the second half, making it 4-0 on an assist from Hoover. Sydney Taylor closed out the scoring on a penalty kick at the 14-minute mark.

   Grenada jumped to a 1-0 lead against Cleveland in the opening half. Will Jordan scored on an assist from Chaz Trost.
   Cleveland tied the game early in the second half.
   The Chargers regained the lead on a penalty kick from Grant Martin at the 16-minute mark. Cleveland would later tie the game at 2-2.
   Jordan and Martin hooked up again with Martin getting the goal to give Grenada a 3-2 advantage with 10 minutes left. Cleveland tied the game and sent the contest to a penalty kick shootout.
   In the shootout, Grenada made two of five kicks. Jordan and Easton Curry scored for the Chargers. Cleveland made three of their kicks to get the win.
   Reiv Wood finished with eight saves.
   In the tournament, Grenada dropped a 4-0 decision to Lamar School of the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools. Wood finished with nine saves against the defending Class AAA champions.
   Against the host Oxford Chargers, Grenada trailed 3-0 at halftime and dropped a 5-0 decision.
Wood had 10 saves in the contest.
   Grenada returns to action tonight traveling to Tupelo for a division match. The girls will open things up followed by the boys.
   GHS will return home Jan. 14 to play host to Kosciusko. The match begins at 5 p.m. with the girls.
