One charge dropped in kidnap case

Staff Writer

One man has been bound over to the grand jury while another has had charges against him dismissed in connection with a reported kidnapping in Grenada last month.
According to Chief Ben Williams with the Grenada Police Department, a man he identified as Demarcus Tidwell, 28, was bound over during a preliminary hearing  in Grenada Municipal Court on Tuesday.
Tidwell is charged with aggravated assault and kidnapping. He’s being held on $250,000 bond, Williams said.
Another man, whom Williams identified as Jalon Swims, 18,  is now free after charges against him were dismissed through court as a result of the victim’s testimony, Williams said.
The charges against Tidwell stem from an incident that culminated on Nov. 25 when members of the Grenada County Task Force forced their way inside the A-1 Studio on Jasper Neely Drive.
Officers arrested Tidwell and Swims and rescued a man they found restrained, and who claimed he’d been kidnapped and held for two days.
Police have yet to establish a motive for the crime, according to Williams.
