Congratulations are in order to former Kirk Academy Headmaster and current Presbyterian Christian School Headmaster Dr. Allen Smithers. Smithers was just recently notified by the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools of his selection to the MAIS Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
Induction ceremonies will take place August 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the Muse Center on the Pearl Campus of Hinds Community College. Tickets for the event are $30 and can be purchased at the door.
The Hall of Fame is for coaches and administrators for the contributions in athletics.
Smithers just completed his sixth year at PCS, which is located in Hattiesburg. Prior to that, he was the Kirk Academy Headmaster for 16 years.
“When I was notified, it was an extremely humbling honor to be named to the Hall of Fame,” Smithers said. “It means even more that my father (A.R. Smithers) was named to the group.”
The late A.R. (Randy) Smithers was inducted into the Hall back in 2005. The induction will give Kirk four members in the Hall. Besides Allan and his father, longtime coach Ronnie Aldy was inducted in 2011. Last year, former girls’ basketball coach and Headmaster Mike Reans was inducted.
Smithers will be part of the induction class which includes current Jackson Academy football  coach David Sykes. The rest of the class includes longtime football coach Jack Carlisle, current Presbyterian Christian football and track coach Joey Hawkins, and current Jackson Academy track and cross country coach Ray Higgins.
