Police said Thursday that they still have neither a suspect nor a motive in the shooting death of Shayla Miers.
Montgomery County Sheriff Bubba Nix said his department is following leads, but there’s been no real change in the case.
“We’re working hard but there’s nothing new to report at this time,” said Nix.
Miers, 23, was shot to death in her home in Duck Hill on April 5. According to Nix, deputies responded to the 911 call placed by Miers’ mother at 6:39 p.m.
A source close to the Miers family told the GrenadaStar that Miers’ parents and her five-year-old daughter left the home at about 7 a.m. for work and school. When her mother returned about 6 p.m., she found Miers, still in her pajamas.
“She must have known who it was. She let them in,” the source said. “They took her cell phone, cleared most of the info an shot her multiple times,” the source said.
Miers was the manager of Popeye’s Chicken in Grenada, according to obituary information.
A spokesman for Eddie Robinson Funeral Home in Grenada said services for Miers are set for Saturday at 11 a.m. at Mt. Pleasant M.B. Church in Duck Hill. Visitation is today from 1 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
