Raiderettes blow past Lady Pats

Coaches will tell you that making shots makes their job much easier.
Kirk Academy girls basketball coach Amy Carroll Hudspeth got a chance to see that first hand this past weekend. The Raiderettes had one of their best offensive games of the season blasting Marshall Academy 62-39.
With the victory, Kirk improves to 15-5 overall and 2-1 inside the division.
In the boys’ game, the Raiders lost a 59-19 decision to the Patriots.
“I thought it was a solid team effort,” Hudspeth said. “We were able to hit our shots the entire night. The shots came from different spots on the floor. We hit our layups, some jump shots, and scored in the post.”
The Raiderettes used a 12-2 run to break a 2-2 tie, and take a 14-4 lead with two minutes left in the opening period. Kirk led 21-10 at the end of the opening quarter.

Marshall run
The Lady Patriots narrowed the margin to 25-20 thanks to a 10-4 run. Marshall got as close as 27-23 in the final minute of the first half. Baskets from Lauren Snyder and Beth Boxx gave KA a 31-23 halftime lead.

Second half
Kirk broke the game open in the third period scoring the first eight points to lead 39-23 with 6:37 left in the quarter. Marshall was able to get as close as 10 the rest of the way.
Junior Hayden Grantham led Kirk with a game-high 22 points. Snyder had 12 points, and Beth Tillman finished with 11 points. Boxx chipped in six and Daniella DiPaolo scored five points. Micah Brooke Woods, Margaret Taylor, Brett Adair Kyle, and Lexie Simmons all had two points.
