A 16-year-old Grenada youth is dead as the result of a stabbing, and another 16-year-old is being charged with his murder.
According to Interim Chief Russell Carver, Marlon Jerelle Morgan died around midnight Thursday at Grenada Lake Medical Center as a result of knife wounds he suffered in a fight.
Carver also said that an individual he identified as Ladarius Rounds, a 10th grader at Grenada High School, is being held on $100,000 bond and is charged with stabbing Morgan to death.
The crime happened on Pine Hill St.
“As far as we can tell this was not gang related,” said Carver. “It isn’t clear exactly what started the altercation.”
According to Carver, Rounds was riding in a car with several friends shortly before the altercation. Carver couldn’t say exactly how the fight started. When police arrived, Morgan was lying in the street. He died at the hospital.
According to Carver, police arrested Rounds about an hour later based in part on eyewitness accounts.
Morgan’s body was sent to Jackson to the state crime lab to undergo an autopsy.
Officials at Grenada High School canceled basketball and soccer games scheduled for Friday after learning of the incident.
Funeral services for Morgan are incomplete.
