3,100 lose power

An overnight storm caused power failures in the county for some Tallahatchie Valley Electric Power Association customers.
According to Jamie Barnett, operations manager at TVEPA, the storm caused trees to fall and knock down power lines leaving about 3,100 homes and businesses without power early this morning.

“The storm placed havoc in this area, but we’ve been in full force since this morning getting restoration,” said Barnett.

Barnett says the storm caused outages to their customers on the edge of Grenada County and on into Yalobusha County from Oakland to Cascilla.

Tallahatchie County was affected as well.

“Our main feeder was damaged causing outages from Oakland to Charleston to Grenada,” Barnett said.

Barnett said customers were affected as far as Webb in western Tallahatchie County and Coldwater in Tate County.

Relay for Life

Relay for Life Chairman Connie Poss said this morning that if the weather holds up the American Cancer Society fundraiser event will still to be held at Charger Stadium.

Poss said if the event is rained out, it would be moved to the Grenada Elementary School. Relay is scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
