Obituaries for February 23, 2001

Wiley H. Flanagan

Wiley H. Flanagan, 85, of Grenada, a native of Pittsboro, died Thursday at Grenada Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Flanagan was a retired minister and electrician. He was a member of Primitive Baptist (Grave Hill Primitive Baptist Church) in Eastview, Tenn.

Mr. Flanagan was also a United States World War II Navy veteran.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at National Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Michael Strevel officiating. Burial will be in Pittsboro (Miss.) Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 12-2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Flanagan is survived by his wife, Mary Alice Flanagan of Gore Springs; a daughter, Mary Flanagan Brewer of Gore Springs; two brothers, Malcolm Flanagan of Ellisville, Mo. and Leslie Flanagan of Summerville, Tenn.; a sister, Minnie Lee Cooper of Pittsboro; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

National Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy L. Henderson

WINONA – Dorothy Lowry Henderson, 83, died Wednesday at Tyler Holmes Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Henderson was a homemaker. She was a member of Moore Memorial United Methodist Church.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lee Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Johnny Walker officiating. Burial will be in Bluff Springs Cemetery in Carroll County.

Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Henderson is survived by a son, J.D. Henderson of Madison, Wis.; a sister, Alma L. Hill of San Diego, Calif.; and a grandchild, Hunter Henderson of Madison, Wis.

Ella M. Herrod

Ella Mae Anderson Farmer Herrod, 75, of Chicago, Ill., a native of Grenada County, died February 15 in Chicago, Ill.

Mrs. Herrod was a homemaker. She was a member of the Church of God in Christ.

The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Bethel Cathedral Church of God in Christ with Elder Alex Turner officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Dentown.

Lorene Mister

Lorene Mister, 89, of Coffeeville, died February 16 at Water Valley General Hospital.

Mrs. Mister was a homemaker. She was also a Baptist.

The funeral will be at 12 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Moriah Building in Coffeeville with the Rev. J.C. Hentz officiating. Burial will be in Kimble Cemetery.

Nadine Jones

Nadine Jones, 64, of Grenada, died February 17 at Grenada Lake Medical Center.

Mrs. Jones was a retired employee of Grenada Lake Medical Center. She was a member of Greater Pine Hill Missionary Baptist Church.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Greater Pine Hill Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Nick Reed officiating. Burial will be in Haven Rest Cemetery.

Mrs. Jones is survived by her husband, James Lewis Jones of Grenada; a son, James Lewis Jones Jr. of Hattiesburg; four daughters, Helena K. Woods, Felicia Renea Walker, both of Grenada, Cynthia Yvette Yates of San Antonio, Texas and Yolunda Crowder of Jackson; four brothers, Marcell Black, Charles Black, Ecell Black, and Edward Black Jr., all of Chicago, Ill; five sisters, Ruby Wade, Willie Mae Miller, Jessie Myers, all of Chicago, Ill., Lizzie Coleman, and Everlena Portis, both of Grenada; and six grandsons, Richardo M. Kincaid, Kenyardia K. Johnson, Michael A. Bracko, all of Grenada, Galay Yates, Jumanji T. Yates, both of San Antonio, Texas and Jalon Dewayne Crowder of Jackson.

Octavyus Weathers

Octavyus ‘O.T.’ Weathers, 66, of Grenada, died Tuesday at his residence.

The funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time.
