James R. Austin

BATESVILLE – James R. ‘Jimmy’ Austin, 47, died Saturday at The Med in Memphis, Tenn. of injuries received in an automobile accident.

Mr. Austin was a member of Goodhope Baptist Church.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Derrick Simmons officiating. Burial will be in Goodhope Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m-2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Austin is survived by his wife, Teresa Davis Austin of Batesville; a son, James Caleb Austin of Batesville; two stepsons, Jason Edwards and Tripp Edwards, both of Water Valley; his mother and stepfather, Doris McClure Austin Reid and James R. Reid of Memphis, Tenn.; and a sister, Cynthia F. Thompson of Bartlett, Tenn.

Avery B. Blaylock

WINONA – Avery Burton Blaylock, 94, of Durant, died Friday at University Hospital in Lexington.

Mr. Blaylock was a farmer. He was a member of New Hope Methodist Church in Winona.

The funeral was at 2 p.m. Sunday at Lee Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Daniel Blaylock and Jerry Mitchell officiating. Burial was in New Hope Cemetery in Winona.

Mr. Blaylock is survived by six sons, William Wayne Blaylock, J.C. Blaylock, Joe Blaylock, all of Durant, Charlie Blaylock of Walls, James Billy Blaylock of Dalton, Ga. and Avery E. Blaylock of Williamsburg, Ky.; five daughters, Pearl Wells, Frances Mitchell, both of Durant, Maggie Blaylock of Williamsburg, Ky., Bobbie Perkins of Jallico, Tenn. and Josephine Armstrong of Clarksdale; 21 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren.

Lee Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Rogers C. Haley

Rogers Corley ‘R.C.’ Haley, 84, of Grenada, died today at Methodist Central Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

The funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time.

M.C. Harrison

BATESVILLE – M.C. Harrison, 62, of Lambert, died Wednesday at North McKinney Nursing Home in McKinney, Texas.

Mr. Harrison was a retired general contractor. He was a member of the Church o Christ.

The funeral was at 2 p.m. Sunday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery in Enid.

Mr. Harrison was the widower of Judith Bridges Harrison.

He is survived by a son, Mike C. Harrison of McKinney, Texas; his mother, Mary Lou Harrison of Sardis; a brother, J.C. Harrison of Memphis, Tenn.; two sisters, Betty H. Lee of Oak Park, Ill. and Carolyn H. Tucker of Harvey, Ill.; and a granddaughter, Cecile’ Harrison of McKinney, Texas.

Velma Logan

CALHOUN CITY – Velma Logan, 85, died Thursday at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford.

Mrs. Logan was a homemaker. She was also a Baptist.

Graveside services were at 10 a.m. Saturday at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Big Creek with the Rev. Johnny Hearn officiating.

Mrs. Logan was preceded in death by her husband, Everette Logan; a son, Donald Logan; and her parents, Will Gentry and Lillian Vickers Gentry;

She is survived by a son, Stanley Logan of McAlester, Okla.; a daughter, Joan Dickey of Big Creek; two brothers, Warren Gentry and Vernon Gentry, both of Trenton, Ga.; a sister, Dorothy Weathers of Trenton, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Wayne Dickey, Donald Dickey, Buddy Wall, Jeremy Winters, Rob Hollis and Bruce Dickey.

Eloise S. Snell

LELAND – Eloise Sullivan Snell, 48, of Wynne, Ark., formerly of Leland and Grenada, a native of Skene, died Friday at Regional Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn.

Mrs. Snell was a waitress.

The funeral was at 2 p.m. Sunday at Boone Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Leland-Stoneville Cemetery.

Mrs. Snell is survived by a son, Allen Corbert Snell of Grenada; a daughter, Tera Snell Collins of Grenada; her mother, Pauline McMinn Sullivan of Leland; two brothers, David Sullivan of Cleveland and Steven Sullivan of Greenville; and six sisters, Lucille S. Lindsey, Connie Lynn Sullivan, both of Leland, Mary Ann S. West of Liberty, Texas, Barbara Sue Sherron, Kathy Sullivan Lane, both of Cleveland and Geraldine S. Melton of Greenville.

Katie Suggs

Katie Suggs, of Enid, died Friday at her residence.

Ulon Williams

Ulon Williams, 5, of Calhoun City, died Friday at Hillcrest Hospital in Calhoun City.

Master Williams was a Baptist.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Eddie Robinson & Son Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Nick Reed officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

Homer Woodard

Homer Woodard, of Calhoun City, died Saturday at Monford Jones Hospital in Kosciusko.
