Walter T. Crafton

BATESVILLE – Walter Thomas Crafton Sr. 75, died Wednesday at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford.

Mr. Crafton was a retired insurance agent and an employee of South Panola School System with the maintenance department. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Alan Kilgore officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Grenada.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Crafton was the widower of Jeanatte Logan Crafton.

He is survived by three sons, Walter Thomas ‘Tommy’ Crafton Jr. of Dallas, Texas, Glenn E. Crafton of Batesville and Gary L. Crafton of Water Valley; a daughter, Patricia C. Treloar of Oxford; a brother, Robert W. Crafton of Elizabeth, La.; six sisters, Thelma C. McCollum of Hollandale, Helen C. Odom of Southaven, Betty C. Sellers, Judy C. Williamson, Faye C. Black, all of Sardis and Mildred C. Parker Of Memphis, Tenn.; and seven grandchildren.

Albert J. Freelon

Albert Jerome Freelon, 33, of Grenada, died December 2 at Grenada Lake Medical Center of injuries received in an automobile accident.

Mr. Freelon was an employee of Binswanger Mirror Products and Freelon Cleaners. He was a member of Greater Pine Hill Missionary Baptist Church.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First New Hope Baptist Church. Burial will be in Haven Rest Cemetery.

Mr. Freelon was preceded in death by a brother.

He is survived by a daughter, Chantille N. Wilson; his parents, Felix and Bernice Freelon of Grenada; 10 brothers; and five sisters.

Willie M. Gant

GREENWOOD – Willie Mae Gant, 66, of Coila, died Wednesday at Mississippi Baptist Hospital in Jackson.

Mrs. Gant was a homemaker. She was a member of Black Hawk Baptist Church.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday Williams & Lord Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. George Mims and David Bartlett officiating. Burial will be in Harmony Cemetery in Carroll County.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Gant was preceded in death by her first husband, George Conner.

She is survived by her husband, Robert E. Gant of Coila; two sons, Larry V. Conner of Bartlett, Tenn. and Louis W. Conner of Houston, Texas; two daughters, Janette Ray of Black Hawk and Gail Holly of Winona; a brother, Herman Carroll of Cruger; a sister, Josie Bowen of Mathiston; and 10 grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be John Jenkins, Sam Abraham, Freddie Wooten, Bill Carroll, David Holt and Rocky Gant.

James W. Grimes

James Wayde Grimes, 40, of Houma, La., formerly of Grenada, died Thursday at Chaubert Medical Center in Houma, La.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Hebron Cemetery in Grenada. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mr. Grimes is survived by a son, Justin Grimes of Durant, Okla.; a daughter, Erin Grimes of Durant, Okla.; a step-daughter, Jamie Cormier of Houma, La.; his father, James Grimes of Grenada; his mother, Peggy Boyett of Grenada; two brothers, Mike Cole and Brad Boyett, both of Grenada; two sisters, Darlene Jackson of Oakland and Tammy Crouch of Grenada; and a companion, Debbie Maronge of Houma, La.

Ira M. Hardiman

Ira Michael Hardiman, 48, of Grenada, died Thursday at his residence.

The funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time.

WINONA – Bessie Loggins, 85, of Kilmichael, died Tuesday at her residence.

Mrs. Loggins was a homemaker.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Spring Hill Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery near Duck Hill.

Mrs. Loggins is survived by her husband, William Loggins of Kilmichael; two sons, James O. Shelton of Duck Hill and A.C. Shelton of Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter, Audrey S. Travillion of Jackson; two sisters, Alice Purnell of Grenada and Mae Hardwick of Calhoun City; 13 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren.

A.J. Mohead

A.J. Mohead, 70, of Grenada, formerly of Scobey, died Tuesday at his residence.

Mr. Mohead was a factory worker. He was a member of the First New Hope Missionary Baptist Church.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at First New Hope Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. P.L. Montgomery officiating. Burial will be in Fleeming Cemetery in Scobey.

Kay A. Pittman

BATESVILLE – Kay Allen Pittman, 67, died Wednesday at her residence.

Mrs. Pittman was a homemaker. She was a member of Goodway Pentecostal Church.

The funeral was at 11 a.m. today at Goodway Pentecostal Church with the Revs. Michael Dutton and Johnny Tullos officiating. Burial was in Marks Cemetery in Marks.

Mrs. Pittman is survived by her husband, James L. Pittman of Batesville; a daughter, Brenda P. Brown of Batesville; a brother, O.C. Allen of Bronson, Texas; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Philippa Powell

Philippa ‘Flip’ Powell, 37, of Grenada, died Thursday at Grenada Lake Medical Center.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the City Auditorium with Roy Lashely officiating. Burial will be in Haven Rest Cemetery.

Ms Powell is survived by her mother, Dorothy Johnson of Grenada; and two sisters, Deborah Johnson, and Margaret Freelon, both of Grenada; and a brother, Gary Woodward of California.

Vera L. Weeks

WINONA – Vera Lou Weeks, 61, of Vaiden, died Thursday at Greenwood Leflore Hospital.

Mrs. Weeks was a homemaker. She was a member of Poplar Creek Baptist Church.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Vaiden Baptist Church. Burial will be in Vaiden Cemetery with the Rev. Leon Holly officiating.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Weeks was preceded in death by a son, Jeffery Guy Weeks.

She is survived by her husband, Guy Weeks of Vaiden; a son, Jimmy Weeks of Vaiden; two daughters, Becky Pierce and Faye Phillips, both of Vaiden; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Gerry D. Williams

Gerry D. ‘Bat Boy’ Williams, 30, of Grenada, died Sunday at the Med in Memphis, Tenn. of injuries received in an automobile accident.

Mr. Williams was a manager of Sports Bar. He was also a Baptist.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First New Hope Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Melvin Montgomery officiating. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.

Mary L. Wood

BATESVILLE – Mary Lee Tramel Wood, 64, of Tupelo, died Thursday at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.

Mrs. Wood was a homemaker.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Clear Creek Cemetery in Oxford.

Mrs. Wood is survived by three sons, Richard E. Wood of Plantersville, James Wood of Bay Springs and Billy Wood of Coldwater; a daughter, Linda W. Davis of Coldwater; two brothers, Travis Tramel and Melvin Wood, both of Batesville; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
