Bert Bays

Bert Bays, 83, of Grenada, died Tuesday at Grenada Lake Medical Center.

Mr. Bays was the retired owner and operator of Grenada Theater and Whitehaven Drive-in. He was a member and past chairman of the Board of Stewards of the First United Methodist Church.

Mr. Bays was past president of the Grenada Rotary Club, a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow Award (Rotary International), a director of Sunburst Bank and later Union Planters Bank. He was a member of the Oxberry-Bayou Hunting Club where he was one of the original board members, he was on the Board of Directors of First Federal Savings and Loan, was past president of Grenada Golf Club, and was past King of the Junior Auxiliary Charity Ball.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Garner-Harper Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Jack Smith, Tom Hawks and J.C. Hubbard officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Bays was the widower of Gloria Williams Bays.

He is survived by a son, Bert Bays Jr. of Grenada; a daughter, Hardy Bays McElwain of Grenada; a sister, Glenda Bays Batson of Grenada; four grandchildren, Harmon Bays of Jackson, Chandler Bays of Grenada, Maelyse M. Webb of Memphis, Tenn. and Meg McElwain of Charlotte, N.C.; and a great-grandchild, William Bays Webb of Memphis, Tenn.

Memorials may be sent to Elizabeth Jones Library, or the First United Methodist Church in Grenada.

Garner-Harper Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Marjorie F. Houston

CHARLESTON – Marjorie Fleck Houston, 75, a native of Oklahoma, Okla., died Tuesday at Tallahatchie General Hospital.

Mrs. Houston was co-owner of Houston Gas Co. He was a member of St. John Catholic Church, Tallahatchie General Hospital Auxiliary and St. John Parish Council.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. John Catholic Church. Prayer service will be at 7 p.m. today at Womble Funeral Home Chapel.

Mrs. Houston was the widow of George Glen Houston.

She is survived by a son, Gary F. Houston of Charleston; two daughters, Glenna C. Callender of Charleston and Vikki L. Pippin of Fayetteville, Ga.; three brothers, J.R. Fleck of Norman, Okla., C.M. Fleck of Tecumseh, Okla. and J.C. Fleck of Sherman, Texas; two sisters, Ellen Hensley of Midwest City, Okla. and Frances Rhodes of Shawnee, Okla.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Womble Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Terry Sessums

Terry Sessums, of Grenada, died Tuesday at his residence.

The funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time.
